Oh man, this is so relatable. Except I've been having trouble making a plan that I stick to. The leader at a poetry workshop last week said something to the effect of “Never feel guilty for intercepting your own creativity with a process.” Her point was that it's all well and good to have a plan, but sometimes creativity overrides those plans, and that's all right. I'm trying to take that energy with me and my unplannedness.

I totally agree with your poetry workshop leader, and congrats for attending a workshop. I hope it is providing you with great experiences and a sense of community. I had Saul Williams write in a book that he signed for me, and he wrote "enjoy the journey" and since then I have been trying to enjoy the journey of life. I do need to plan otherwise I don't do anything, hence why I do the NaPoWriMo and write 30-50 poems a year. If I didn't have that structure I am not sure how many poems I'd be writing a year, maybe some maybe none, I'd rather not think about it. For me I need a plan, as a father of twins and working a full time job and being a creative I need to push myself in the structure to break the structure and improve upon it. Hope this makes sense and glad this caused you to comment.
