Hello friends,
I am not sure about you but National Poetry Writing Month was a slog for me, but in a good way. No, I didn’t hit all 30 days and no I didn’t interact as much as I would have liked with others on the NaPoWriMo website but I do recommend going back through the past 30 days and reading some of the stuff folks put up for others to read. I know I am going to go to that well again because I don’t think it will ever go dry. That is the beauty of the internet, things stay there until someone takes them down, that is also why I am not running for president in 2024 because I am sure I have things out there that I have forgotten about, and well, let’s just say that by me saying that, someone is going to look for something on me. Yikes be careful what you wish for.
It’s hard to believe that it was 20 years ago that the blog for NaPoWriMo was started and how far and wide that has gone. Again another power of the internet. I think those of us who were around for the beginning of the internet may be feeling a bit of nostalgia with all the new AI stuff going on around us. Perhaps in 20-30 years, it will be so commonplace that my kids will have their own kids and say I remember back in the old days. I hope they remember the Saturday mornings we watched cartoons and ate donuts and waffles more than life without AI.
It’s also hard to believe that I started writing poetry back in 1989. I have some reprints of my oldest poems right next to me. At some point, I took the poems from a steno pad and put them in a regular notebook encased in a 3-ring binder with handbills of poetry readings I was leading and a 5.25 floppy disc that I cannot read because I don’t have anything to read it with. Another power of technology. I am taking those handwritten words and putting them on an external hard drive and doing slight edits for clarity. It is an interesting journey to see what I was going through and what my thoughts were, some of it is embarrassing some of it is where I can say that is why I do this poetry thing.
What is Next for Create Art Podcast
This coming Sunday, May 7th, 2023, I will be going back to regular episodes and continuing my journey through Kickstart Creativity. The topic will be Rest, something I need to do more of. I also will be walking at my local Walk for MS research fundraiser. I have already collected $150 for the cause and I will be sharing photos of that in the next newsletter. I am not going to nag you for money, I just want to raise awareness about this condition that I have, and maybe you know someone who has it as well. Until next time keep making art.
