So it is summer and my kids asked me if I was going on summer break. Ahhh kids, they say the darnest things. As an artist I never take time off, I want to be inspired by everything around me. Summer gives us the chance to go out into the world and experience new things. What are your plans for being inspired this summer?
The first thing I am doing this summer is celebrating my kid’s birthday. You may not think that is very artsy, but if you just open your ears and eyes and see the interaction of the kids during a birthday party you can’t help but get swept up in the emotion and fun of a great bowling party birthday.
Next up is a book fair. My wife loves these and my pocketbook doesn’t. We go every year to our local Independent Authors Book Festival and leave with a ton of gifts for the rest of the year. I also talk with a number of the authors there and offer my podcast to get the word out about their books. So yes it is a great opportunity for me to get out into the world and outside of my mancave and actually talk with people.
My wife’s birthday is also in the summer so we will naturally go out for a nice dinner and sit and talk. Even these moments are inspiring because of where we go to eat. Usually, it is a nice place, Italian usually because when you marry an Italian you go get good Italian food. We talk about the kids and our future and the things we want to do.
Every summer we hit our local YMCA for pool time to cool off and this year is no exception. We plan on hitting the pool weekly and having a great time. I am always amazed at how friendly my kids are and are open to meeting new kids. They thrive on this stuff and who am I to stop them? Watching kids play is becoming one of my favorite pastimes.
At the end of summer, I will be driving to New Jersey to give a talk on podcasting at the Indie Pod Con 8 and I am more than excited about that. I haven’t done a live conference since before the pandemic started so I am itching to get to this one. I am hoping many old friends show up and new ones as well.
So what does your summer look like, hopefully as eventful and inspiring as mine is going to be?
